Re the baggage question, my MR's involve an overnight in SEA the night before (and of) the out-and-back journey. So I pack a carry-on and from JNU to SEA, it goes in the overhead (I have my CPAP in it and don't want to check it). I also carry my backpack which, prior to Alaska Beyond, contains emergency underpanties, etc. This year, I have to choose between that and my laptop so I can use the new system. Don't yet know how to manage the foundation wear situation.

The morning of the out-and-back, I check the bag at Ken's on the baggage claim level and just take the backpack with me. Upon return I retrieve the bag and head for my hotel. It's eight dollars well spent.
