1. Unlikely there will be a seat open on a transcon for you to upgrade into but if there is, it's probably worth the $100 to upgrade although the point of a mileage run is to spend as little $$ as possible for your miles so this could potentially double your cpm if you got in on a great fare.
Ya, I got one at about 3.6cpm and this work push it WAY up... I was hoping a paid upgrade would earn the 75% extra miles for being in first, but it sounds like it doesn't book into P or F... Oh well, we'll see how I'm feeling that day and if there even is the option to upgrade.
