Not sure if anyone here gambles on sports but Jersey is fighting tooth and nail to get sportsbooks legalized in the state. IMO, this is the last hope for Atlantic City. Sportsbooks would pull a lot of people into that city ... but, looks like it's a steep climb to get approved.
Isn't that just buying a bit of time? Atlantic City's brief 1980s renaissance came when it was pretty much the only big place in the US to gamble besides Las Vegas... until about 10 years later when every podunk town got its own casino. It'll probably be the same thing with sportsbooks.
