I'd fly out to YVR for a Saturday or Sunday Do if you do it at the Fairmont YVR. I'd book a room and stay over so I can recover before the flight back.
(Don't want to end up drunk on Grouse looking for the bear sanctuary. Don't ask

Any month is fine, although best to stay away from the reading weeks/ spring breaks dates, if possible
