I like the analogy in the linked article. Asking a tourist for advice on best places to eat is like asking them for directions. Doesn't make a lot of sense. How would they know the best places to eat when they've only been to a couple? Just about every city has lists drawn up by knowledgeable locals, like Katie Parla in Rome, Buon Accoglienza in Venice, Scattidigusto or Vera Pizza Napolitano in Naples. These are written by knowledgeable people who live there and rate food for a living. TripAdvisor restaurant ratings are generally bizarre, written by a tourist who just arrived to italy and is having just a couple of meals there in a touristy neighborhood. On face value, asking a tourist for the best restaurant in the city makes no sense.
