True, CX is hitting AY rather hard by flying to destinations like MAN that has substantial demand for Asian routes. Maybe they are also emboldened by the Air China partial ownership and the vast resources of the Chinese government behind the latter "airline ministry"

However, I'd rather sell connections to Chinese provincial cities via JL and NRT as an alternative as quality and safety standards there are still way ahead of Mainland Chinese airlines. What is the joint venture for if not that?

As for future Finnair destinations in China, my guesses would be Sanya (Hainan), Nanjing, Hangzhou, Chengdu and just maybe Harbin. First for travel agencies selling package tours and the rest for mainly business (and some leisure) travel.

I think they won't even try to enter South China anymore due to the bitter lesson learned at CAN.

There is also some room for growth in Korea as Busan has extensive offshore business travellers from Scandinavia and the rest of Europe and vice versa. In Japan they have to play by the rules set by JL.

And yes, there seems to be high demand especially for CAN - Africa routes.
