The statement about connections onto MU without mention of CZ (which is based at CAN, but has lots of flights at PEK, PVG and SHA) seems strange. I wonder whether a JV with only MU is in the works, but this is just speculation.
No JV until the US and China have open skies — which isn't happening any time soon. I believe MU and CZ both use the same terminal at PVG (I've been there once, but it was early in my frequent flyer days) and I believe they share lounges as well, but I've never really been able to figure out the Chinese lounge situation exactly.
