Possible, but not necessary. If you buy multiple cards from the same batch and examine the card numbers, you will find that the first 12 digits are usually the same and only the last four are different. Given the large volume of card being activated, thanks to MSers, it is not that hard to get a hit randomly if you can find a place that "allows" you to try multiple times, say 100, without the requirement of CVV codes.
