No one should ever worry about people hearing you speak English.
OTOH, if you speak 'murrican, or even worse, one of the mangled patois' that come out of the US East and Southeast (like Appalachian Mumble, Central Florida Mushmouth, Georgia Wheeze, or Gulf Coast Gargle), you should probably not even whisper, because people will wonder why the cat you're strangling is dying so quietly.
If you do want to communicate, just write everything down, because that's the only way anyone other than your neighbors back home will understand you
