Why can't AS offer different FC food in different directions between city pairs?
No, it is not because I hate polenta. It is just that it does not seem logical to serve the same FC item in both directions to the same person on one trip. Assuming the same or similar departure times on both the outbound and inbound flights, and travelling in FC both ways.
IIRC, if one travels in Coach, the offerings change depending on the direction of travel. Why can't this be done for FC? Should I order and pay for whatever is offered in Coach in order to get some variety and avoid the same meal on consecutive days?
I am not advocating any changes in the offerings. The same monthly rotating food items can be kept. Just that the same item should not be served in BOTH directions for a full month between the same city pairs.
BTW, how can I order an item served in Coach when sitting in FC? When is the appropriate time to do this?
Unfortunately, this may be a comment on the relative appeal of Coach food vs. FC food. Especially when there is the the AS Beyond push for improving the Coach food experience. Perhaps other flyers who are not exactly enthused about what is offered in First might take the tack of routinely inquiring what is available in Coach and offering to pay for it.
BTW, this seems to apply for most West Coast flights, but may not apply to transcons, mid, and HI flights.
YMMV.
