That´s what the immigration told me in Beijing as I asked about that.
The girl told me that the PSB would give you a visa for the overstay, maybe she meant "extend the TWOV period" but sho clearly spoke about a visa.
I definitely think they´ll not give you a L visa (or similar) but you need "anything in your passport".
