24 Hrs Tokyo - Recommendations/Help!
Next month I will be visiting Tokyo for the first time. In fact I am in Osaka/Kyoto region but I was able to take a 24 hour connection in Tokyo at no extra cost on my flight back to Europe, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to have a quick "taster" visit. I have worked out mostly what I want to do, but the city itself completely baffles me! In terms of all the place names, the various means of transport, the sheer size etc I'm finding it very difficult to put together an itinerary which I feel comfortable with.
I also see lots of different ticket prices, tourist ticket reductions etc and being on a budget I'm keen to keep costs to a minimum. I'm hoping that some of the experts on here can help with some of my below points?
We arrive in Haneda at 11am on day 1, and depart from Narita at 11am on day 2. Day 2 we will wake up and travel to Narita, so in reality we only have day 1 to enjoy.
1. The only affordable place that we could afford to stay is in Asakusa, at 2-14-13 Kuramae. According to Google Maps, we should take the Keikyu Airport Line from Haneda to Kuramae station, then walk 350m. It says this will cost 610 Yen.
2. After dropping our luggage, we would like to immediately go and see a couple of the main sights. I guess we should stop for some local lunch quickly in the Asakusa area first! Any recommendations for cheap Japanese eats? My girlfriend's stomach doesn't cope well with raw seafood/sushi, so we're looking for warm food offerings. After this, we'd like to take the metro to a couple of the main sights whilst it is still daylight. We were thinking the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building for the viewing terrace? Any other "must see's" without having to take too many different trains back and forwards across the city?
3. In the evening we want to find an exciting part of the city (Shinjuku or Shibuya by the looks of it?) for some local food, bright lights, nightlife etc. No clubbing, but some good local bars would be appreciated. We need to make our way back to Asakusa before the metro stops running in the evening.
4. In the morning, Google Maps suggests to walk back to Kuramae Station then take the Asakusa Line direct to Narita, at a cost of 1290 Yen. I'm worried about Tokyo rush hour trains with us having suitcases - are we likely to have a problem on this route at approx 8am?
5. Considering that on day 1 we will be taking multiple metro trains around the city, can we benefit by buying some kind of 24 hour pass maybe?
Thank you in advance for any advice/opinions!
