what the OP CAN do is SDC onto a UA flight ... within 24 hrs you can change to another UA flight for free or with a minor fee (depending on status) granted the original booking class is available. It's worth a shot ... and it can be used to make a connection into a layover.
Uh, SDC only works from UA metal to UA metal. OP is on LH
