If you were on United it might be possible to use same-day change to move to a later flight within 24 hours of the flight (although there would be a fee), but Lufthansa don't have anything similar - and it's the airline that you're flying that matters.
what the OP CAN do is SDC onto a UA flight ... within 24 hrs you can change to another UA flight for free or with a minor fee (depending on status) granted the original booking class is available. It's worth a shot ... and it can be used to make a connection into a layover.
