What is obscenely perverse is forcing people to pay for a passport or other govrnment-issued ID to travel the same as others while denying such people the right not to be pushed into a false choice -- with potentially negative consequences, legal or otherwise -- at home and/or abroad in order to exercise the right to travel the same as other bearers of the same travel doc types. Given the scientific fact that people are not all born male or female, X for sex designation in passports is the most sensible thing short of just eliminating the sex field in ICAO-compliant passports.

Being forced to mark M or F, when neither M nor F, can result in problems -- especially when passport applications completed with deliberately false info may make the person subject to prosecution.
