You can definitely use AB's TopBonus miles for redemptions on Etihad flights and I'm sure that includes upgrades too.

Its just the issue with doing it on a non-EY coded Etihad flight I'm not so sure of.
Quoting ownership figures has nothing to do with the fact. You can NOT use AB miles to upgrade an EY coded/operated flight. Redemptions sure. But not upgrades.
