courtesy of Landings.com Distance Calculator, we find that SFO is 1429 miles and LAX is 1327 miles; we have already identified EA as operating their L-1011 to SEA, which is 1363 miles

so let's look at other candidate UA cities on the west coast that are more than 1363 miles from OMA:
  • Portland (1364)
  • Sacramento (1366)
  • Santa Barbara (1384)
  • San Jose (1411)
  • Oakland (1419)
none of these make sense in terms of a nonstop to/from OMA, so I'm left to dissect the response to my first guess ... thinking that it should have read "'SFO and 72S equipment' is incorrect" seems to point to "SFO and 727 equipment" as the answer
