Oslo used to have Fornebu, sort of Oslo's LaGuardia or Oslo's version of Dorval (Montreal). Gardermoen was the far away airport used for very few long haul international flights. Fornebu closed in the late 1990's, I think.

Similarly, Washington Dulles used to be the far away white elephant, maybe having a few flights to LAX, SFO, and Europe. No longer.

Prestwick, far away from Glasgow, used to be the Montreal Mirabel of Glasgow. Now it's even more dead as far as passenger traffic. It didn't become the Washington Dulles of Glasgow.

Oh, many probably know that Washington Dulles is a new-ish name. It used to be Dulles International Airport but that sounded too much like Dallas. I can see that but National Airport's new-ish name is a mouthful...named after two Presidents, Reagan and Washington. BWI is even worse, something like Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. They should have kept it as Friendship Airport or, at least, BWI. Either that or Thurgood Marshall Airport.
