I had never heard it before I started calling about a non-elite card. I previously only paid my Citi Hilton Reserve or AA Exec with debit and never heard anything about "elite", but when I've called to pay my regular Hilton card (using the number on the back of that card), the rep always asks me to hold while they connect me to their elite department.
