Not sure I entirely agree that it's all about world cuisine - new British is all the rage. The key is to avoid the tourist places and, if you don't want to spend a fortune, also avoid the City and the West End but instead head for where people live. Shoreditch, Hoxton, Notting Hill, Battersea all spring to mind as having great choices. Try The Shed or Source, for example.
