Who cares? It's a flight number. It means nothing in the grand scheme of things for a passenger. If your flight is #1 or #4381 does it make a difference? Does it make you book away? Probably not. There are bigger issues at stake than flight numbers. They are serving drinks in plastic cups for crying out loud.
It's interesting for those of us who enjoy learning about what goes on behind the scenes technically. There's also a good discussion going on about how changing flight numbers impact on-time reporting.
