The rental is work related, in that 1) I will have a job and 2) I'd be using that car to get between home and work. Otherwise, there is nothing about the job which requires use of a car. What are the chances that my employer's policies (a physicians office) cover cars used for commuting? My guess is that it's as close to zero as one can get. But actually, I'm honestly just speculating. Can't hurt to ask.
