Long story, but no, my work will not be getting involved with this rental in any way (insurance or otherwise). Basically, the rental is for me, as an alternative to buying a car.
It doesn't matter that your employer isn't paying for the vehicle. I asked whether the rental is work-related. If so, it may be that your employer's policies cover your use.
