I'm looking to book a trip in July from ATL-LAX. It's showing a 763ER. Not knowing, I called DL asking how to check to see if upgrade seats were available. I was shocked to find out you have to call in to check and there's no waitlisting. Neither flight is available now and F is wide open for both.

So I'm asking those who know this route, or transcons in general, when would those seats generally open up? Outbound is a Sunday morning, return following Saturday morning.

And with no EF, I really do have to call every time to check, right?
