So, after two calls into AA (rejected the first AAgent) I won the jackpot with an AAgent so competent and efficient, that I got a call back the next day to tidy up and confirm the CX decisions.
Was told it was easier to request non available AAward seats on the same day of the original departure with a different routing rather than ask CX for AAwards seats on another day that had no AAward seats available.
So...
The 12.15 ORD-HKG that had been switched to 15.30 the day before (creating a 15 hour overnight in HKG for the HKG-DAD connection), turned into an evening departure to YYZ, connecting at 01.45, and an early morning HKG arrival with a quick connection to DAD.
Nice. Actually, the YYZ fights were our options before ORD-HKG came online anyway.
On the return, CX had no problem quickly changing the return HKG from ORD to LAX. Otherwise, our morning DAD-HKG gets us into HKG too late for the single 11.55, HKG-ORD flight. So, the later 16.35, HKG-LAX works with an evening connection to ORD.
Too bad about the lost route. Besides the routing/connection, the 3x weekly early morning ORD-HKG flight offered more AAward availability options into Asia.
That's great. On your return how did you manage to get them to change it since your original booking flight wasn't affected? I'm in the same boat with a forced overnight after a late arriving DPS.
