No, they did not change their policy. There never was lifetime Star Alliance Gold/Aegean Gold.

Under the old programme's rules, once Gold was attained, it was valid until further notice. The old programme was discontinued on November 24, 2014. Henceforth, Gold will have to be earned each year.
