Any Idea What "Flight Coupon Required" means

I have an AA itinerary that involves an AA flight, 2 US and one returning AA flight. Since the first flight is on AA can't OLCI (and request upgrade). Got to MIA and I can't kiosk check in. No USAir agents until later, just about boarding time for my AA flight.

An AA agent was able to print my US BPs but across the BP is printed "Flight Coupon Required". The US BPs also shows other comments "Ticket Required" and "Boarding Pass Only." There is no US Air representative in the AC until around 7AM when I will be long gone. AC staff looked at the reservation and said everything looks fine, they have no idea what this language means.

Any ideas? I will check once I get to CLT but what a pain and of course any chance of upgrading out the window.
