How do the OP and his friends handle room charges? How do they split a check when the three go out to dinner? Single/solo travelers do pay a penalty for traveling alone - the "single supplement" on package tours. If the OP moves to his own room, he will pay double what he pays at a 50-50 split, but have more privacy. A couple has a reasonable expectation to use their hotel room for certain activities - their complete freedom to do that is somewhat curtailed by sharing with the OP unless they share a two bedroom suite. The above proposed 30-30-40 split feels the most fair to me as a solo traveller, but if his friends remain firm, the OP's choices seem to be a 50-50 split or 100% of his own room. I do wish the travel/hotel industry would offer more single room options.
