Update. Called web-services last night. My first day of flights for this was to be CMI-ORD, ORD-LAX.

The issue, they said, was because I should have just tried to book CMI-LAX. I tried that - I was able to book - albeit for $100 more. Fairly shoddy - and I do not understand what the exact issue was, but the guy on the phone acted like this was common knowledge. *shrug* I figured that if I was booking a Multi-city, I should have had to put in EACH segment separately - which is apparently not the case.
