Agent Cannot See Paid Inventory I Find Online

Okay, i was on the phone with an agent last night trying to make a change to this weeks travel and this was basically what happened.

ME: I have a trip A-B-A, I've already flown A-B, and i need to change the return to B-C, then C-A, at these times. What's the cost?
Agent: I have to send it to the re-issue desk (wait). It's $700
ME: Okay, what about the earlier flight home, is that cheaper?
Agent: (wait). Not really.
ME: Okay, let me take what you originally quoted.
Agent: Oops, that flight is no longer available, the last two seats just sold.
ME: (grrr) Okay, I'll take the early morning flight.

Then, I stalled on the phone while i searched on dl.com. There was the flight that I wanted, for sale, I told the agent that I was about to book the flight that she said was sold out, in M class. She said that at the last minute it will probably tell you that it's sold out. I agreed, that's happened SO many times in the past. I clicked on the button and, lo and behold, I got it. I told her, told her the locator and she was speechless. So.....

ME: Okay, now I just need to change B-A to B-C.
Agent: Okay, done.

So, how do you suppose that I was able to find and book a flight that she, and the rebooking desk, BOTH told me was sold out?

Strange, eh?

And they wonder why we don't trust them.
