Sounds like a pretty awful experience for those that were affected. I'd assume if I bought my ticket from BA, it was a BA's obligation to sort it.

One wonders if the scenario was reversed, and the ticket was sold by Air India, with BA flying the 1st sector, would people be saying it was BA's responsibility.
