If what the OP says is true, then it is truly poor performance by EK. If there is a seat guarantee, I want EK to honor it - esp. if i pay a full fare Y fare.

I personally have been using the booking guarantee quite often when flying in the Middle East region ("Y fare on the Sunday morning DXB-RUH" is a classic). I never ran into any problems.
