it used to be with e-rewards that if you signed up with an airline invitation, you only got that airline. I know my first one was through Northwest Or Airtran. Once it went away, I got access to all other airlines that they offer.

I've got another account that started through a hotel chain (I think) that immediately gave me access to multiple airlines.
