I was contacted via pm from the hotel and I was put in touch with someone at the hotel who helped me with my current res (saving room preferences specifically for this hotel... and confirming that free breakfast for diamonds was just a trial) and switching my room type for my res next year. Very very friendly and nice.
I just made an award reservation for a 2-night stay next month and I would LOVE for this to happen to me...they are playing the same old room type games where their "standard redemption" is 2 queens and nothing else available (even though it is winter in Chicago; not exactly high season). If in 2 stays at this property I cannot manage to obtain a simple king bed as a gold (then) and diamond (now) then I will find that pretty ridiculous.
