OP here. And going back to my original question, When I select "nonstop flights only" on .com and look at the monthly calendar it shows green/blue dates as you indicated.
When I click on any green/blue date it says at the top, "! There are no nonstop flights available for this destination. The flight search results for this destination with stops are shown below."
It then displays AKL-SYD-LAX, etc.
So every blue/green date I click in to is a false positive making it rather impossible to search.
