As well as the Comfort and Richmond there is also a newly opened APA Hotel on the same side of the tracks (Tokyo bound, away from the airport) as the Richmond Hotel. (snip)
I'm personally curious about the APA Hotel's sento (gender segregated public bath) but this feature doesn't appeal to everyone.
I stayed at the APA hotel in October 2013. It was just...OK, and it had the smallest single room I have ever seen in Japan. I took a picture of it, and even long-time residents agreed that it was seriously small. The food in the restaurant was not very good, either for a late dinner or breakfast, and if I stayed there again, I'd hunt around for nearby restaurants.
I didn't try out the sento, because I had just arrived and was too jet-lagged to care.
And yes, the stairs are a royal pain with a large suitcase, even a wheeled one.
