You are right. I also am of the view "AH KOW" are both first names in this case.
However, my experience with Americans and Europeans who do not have too much Asian awareness, they will call someone by "AH KOW" (using both first names) only if it is written as "AHKOW" or "AH-KOW".
If not, they presume that "AH KOW" comprises first name and middle name. So they only use just one of the names (i.e AH or KOW).
Those who have been to Asia probably know how incorrect it is to use only of the above name, especially with this example.
In any case, I always give "AH KOW" as first names for my flight bookings.

My last SQ boarding pass (as of Dec 2014) shows TAN<space>AH<space>KOW and not TAN<space>AHKOW.
