Called Southwest.
The Companion Pass error message is a "known bug" and there is an "open ticket" on it. No estimate as to when it will be fixed.
The agent was able to book a few early flights in January for me, just to be safe from oversold flights.
So far, the companion pass bookings do not show up in my "upcoming flights" list, though.
Not fixed as of yet.
I was a little worried at first that the problem was on my end. Thankfully this thread reminded me that WN IT is hard at work.
