When the crew member speaks too quickly on the PA it can make it very hard for people to understand it. Not much I can add really, other than I'm sure most good SCCMs would give feedback if a PA was hard to understand and hopefully this will have been done on the Op's flight.

I've heard Germans/Austrians make clearer announcements in English than some of the native English speakers on other airlines. Training should be given on delivery of announcements. I don't think that an accent really makes a big difference when words are pronounced clearly and slowly. If us English have problems understanding these announcements, what chance do the foreign travellers have!?
