I've done this a few times, never had a problem with getting plates etc, but this has been in HI's or HIE, some of the hotels have even given us menus. At a hotel without tea and coffee provided, had no problems with getting cups for our rooms, took our own kettle etc. I would ask at check in, if it's on a regular basis swill them through yourself.
