Did the BA001 a few weeks ago, and chatting to the staff in the lounge, it was overbooked by two. It left with three empty seats.

However, to the case in point, it does seem silly that BA wouldn't have moved the OP to the earlier flight.

Creating a happy and satisfied customer creates business value - something that BA seem to have lost sight of recently.
