Per the T&C you should not get either benefits or points/stays/nights, but as mentioned above it often/usually works out where you get both. Only a very few have even asked my wife to have me come down later, and only one (Hilton Anaheim Convention Center) refused all-together to give any benefits/points/nights/stay.
I've witnessed this at Hilton and other brands. As an elite, I don't think non elites or lesser elites should get the benefits, others have worked for. Especially if it has the potential to take a better room type from another elite.
