The obstacle is the number of hours, however if you are checking it in after 18 hrs, you are fine anyway. If you take it yourself to T8 before that time, then I would have a contingency plan just in case they enforce the 12 hour rule. But to be honest, checking in a bag with just 32 hours in HNL does not strike me as sensible at all: there aren't that many flights, and big gaps between them, that this is exactly why you go HBO. The old trick for NY, incidentally, was to go to a 3 or 4 star hotel, have a bite to eat, but check in the luggage at the hotel's storage facility. A generous tip, USA style, normally solves all problems. Many restaurants have coat checks too.

Would the baggage storage facility open early enough for a 6am departure?
I've no idea about that, I'm afraid, and I notice that some storage facilities, both in NY and at the airport only open at 8 am! However the Terminal 4 facility appears to be 24 hours.
