I don't see a problem with this. If the flight is on time, you'll have no problem with the connection. It's likely a T7-T7 connection, which is very small and easy to do. You may even be early.

I would definitely check bags -- make them UA's problem, not yours. If your bags don't make it, they'll deliver them to you.

If you miss the flight, there are usually 1-2 later redeyes, and redeye options through Chicago and Houston. If things start going south in OGG (which you'll often know early on since the inbound is coming from LAX or SFO most likely), then rebook or reroute before you get to OGG.
