good but nothing extraordinary

Staying here for New Year's Eve and so far all is good. I was able to book the night on points and after that everything was sold out. it's understandable that they were not able to accommodate any of my special requests. SNA did not clear and so was my request for a river view room.

Room was a little bit nicer than standard US westin fare, but did not feel special. Wifey complained that the metal bed headboard was too irritating as she managed to bang her head against it couple of times.

This is a 3 minute walk to the river theatre, but very quiet. We could not hear any of the festivities, bands playing there. We walked to the Hemisfair park for viewing fireworks and it was an easy walk for my 10 year old including. But if you are here for the fireworks, then the Hilton or Marriotts are much closer to the action.

The lady at check-in made it clear the breakfast platinum amenity is only 1+1 and we have to pay extra for the kids. it's continental only and upgrade is offered for $5 more. After confirming the upgrade price, she again mentioned that the upgrade is still 1+1 and for kids it is still extra. I thought this was a little unnecessary.

They had some cheese, fruits and bread in the lobby in the evening reception, I thought that was nice.

All in all I think I am happy with the stay, but I am not sure if I would go my out of way to stay here. We are going to stay at the Emily Morgan tonight, may be that will give us a better perspective on things.

Happy new year all FTers!
