I presume by the way with a layover once you clear immigration at Shannon, on arrival you can just get out of the terminal and return without any restrictions.. I'll have no checked-in luggage.
Do you really want to stay in a lounge for 12 hours?

You may be able to use the BA lounge if it's open but your onward flight will leave from another terminal (unless you are travelling on United) so you'll need to reclear security at the next terminal. If you came on BA1 then yes you'll be able to leave the terminal or stay in it at your leisure.
