Spent New Year's Eve 2009 down there and after that, vowed, never again. Never felt as unsafe at a public event as that night. Nothing happened that night but once my companions and I were literally pinned in and all you could do was just get swept along with wherever the undulations were taking us, it was time to get out of there. And this was with nothing going on, still an hour before NYE with people just waiting. It's completely plausible too me how any disturbance, however minor could cause such a tragedy. Decided to just fight our way out and go home. In hindsight, glad to have spent NYE walking on a sidestreet off Xikang Rd. away from the crowds.
