I've put my silver tag in my carry-on since the times when BA245 continued to EZE from GRU, and cabin crew would go through the bins to check that every piece of bag belonged to someone still on board during the GRU stopover. The tag made it easier to identify mine.
Even tough now there are two separate flights, the tag remained there.
