I used to have my blue tags on as I liked showing off I was flying BA (back in T4 days). Never planned on displaying the bronze ones for same reasons you state - almost a FF/high flier wannabe...but wasn't truly tested as I went straight through Bronze into Silver during my RT. So my actual tags all showed up in the same week.

Will say that my very short stint as Bronze did help though - my flight from JNB to LHR was cancelled (plane used to cover one that went tech in Boston) - I was moved on to earlier flight. My work colleague (AA member but no status) was moved two days further out. Company TA ended up getting him on standby for WT+ (was booked in CW) and he was last on plane...last minute no-show.
