Any my personal conspiracy theory (based on the TONS of BA flights offered as AAdvantage awards, and el zilcho on AA metal) is that AA/BA cooked this up as a scheme to charge award travelers a big fat surcharge and split the $$ under the table. Don't like it? AA can always deny that they have anything to do with it, since it's "BA's charge."
